As Idza mentioned, babies sleep up yo 17 hours a day but never a few hours at a time as their tummies are small, so they get hungry fast since breastmilk is quickly digested. Typically, newborn babies sleep up to 16 to 17 hours a day. But most babies don't stay asleep for more than two to four hours at a time, day or night, during the first few weeks of life :)
