Does a newborn recognise a daddy as much as mummy? I hear babies get familiar with their mum's smell. Is this also thr case for fathers?

initially a newborn is not able to focus well and is not able to clearly see any faces, be it mom or dad. the way a newborn understand that mommy is near is by your smell, and that of the milk. bonding with baby depends on how much time you spend with baby. if the father starts spending a lot of time with the baby, then the baby will also start to respond more to the father.
