Finger painting is always a great (and timeless) activity for pre-schoolers. It's a bit messy but brings out the artist in your youngster. In fact, I'd say painting is the most constructive arts and craft activity for a pre-schooler. If your kids haven't tried it, it's worth a shot! These websites also offer tons of great ideas that would be great for a pre-schooler: http://www.buzzfeed.com/popsugarmoms/the-best-toddler-crafts-for-little-hands-arr7#.mc8EyPRkE http://www.kidspot.com.au/childhood-firsts/Toddler-firsts-Fun-at-home-Craft-for-toddlers+6514+737+article.htm

My cousin often refer to this site for ideas: http://www.education.com/activity/preschool/arts-and-crafts/ Here are a few she has tried and really loved making and playing with her child: http://www.education.com/activity/article/two-ingredient-sensory-dough/ http://www.education.com/activity/article/musicalmotor_preschool/ http://www.education.com/activity/article/fingerpaint_preschool/ She recommend the fine motor practice as it also helps train the fine motor skills. Easy to prepare and keeps the children occupied with simple activities. :)

Give the children baskets and have them gather as many fallen leaves as they can from a park/garden. Allow them to freely roam around and adventure on their own while you watch from a near distance. Place an adhesive onto a blank sheet of paper and have them stick the leaves on. The benefit: 1) Includes outdoor play 2) Improves fine motor skills 3) Curiosity is built and encouraged 4) Self creation

To start with, you can teach your pre-schooler paper folding techniques. You can then move on to teaching him articles like paper boat, paper airplane etc. This way you can get him interested in craft. As for art, a few colouring pens and a colouring book are good enough to start with. This will help you gauge his interests and you can develop it accordingly.

Try creating your own edible paint for kids to play around with. They can use it for fingerpainting arts and crafts. If you want to get really messy, try creating an edible mud sensory play: http://kidsactivitiesblog.com/58361/edible-mud-sensory-play

Many art classes are available at www.flyingcapecompass.com. Can search by location and age, etc.
