Living separately while waiting for BTO

Hi all, any couples lived separately (1-2 years) after getting married while waiting for your flat to be ready? If so, how to explain to in laws that we want to live separately?

Well, if your spouse have siblings, easier for them to understand, unless if your spouse is a single child then that one quite hard to convince.
