Are dogs and cats safe for newborns? Ours does not bite but am afraid of bacteria etc as he licks the baby

They are safe with newborns as long as the pets groomed and maintained. As a dog owner, it's always sad to see or hear parents have to rehome their pets because of newborns, thus I will say that the couple should think thoroughly before deciding to keep a pet.
