I highly recommend Kinokuniya, it is my favourite book store in Singapore! Kinokuniya has a great range of children's books, especially the bigger outlet, Ngee Ann City. In addition to the wide selection of books, the layout of the store (especially the children's section) allows for kids to sit, read or simply explore the selections on the shelves. You can find out more about other book stores with great kids selections here: http://sg.theasianparent.com/6-best-places-to-get-kids-books-in-singapore-2/
If I were you, I'd choose to go to a library instead of a book store. Firstly a library allows you to borrow up to 16 books during school holidays without paying a single cent! Secondly there an lots of books for you and your child to choose from, ranging from fantasy to history to cooking. Thirdly, all libraries in Singapore have e-catalogues. Therefore this makes it easier for you to borrow books from home! :-)
You can just borrow it from library. They are well-stocked with books for all ages – from preschoolers to adults – and often host events such as storytellings, performances and workshops too. I always bring my children to library during weekend to borrow their favourite story books and cartoon DVD. :)
