What is the one thing you thought you needed before baby arrived, that turned out you didn't need at all?

1) Formula I bought a tin as a back up, but fortunately I've never needed to use it. 2) Prewalker shoes It looks cute, but it loses out to socks in terms of comfort and snugness. Plus, there's no real reason for babies to wear shoes. 3) Baby cot This was the first item on my shopping list, but as I direct latch my baby, it's much easier to co-sleep. I've only recently moved the cot to my room. 4) Bottle Warmer I bought a fancy schmancy Avent warmer which promised to retain the nutrients in breastmilk, but it just took way too long to heat up the milk (10 minutes). My baby went on a bottle strike at 3 weeks old and has not ended her strike, so I've sold it off. Besides, it's much easier and faster to heat the milk in a bowl of hot water. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/08/14/what-not-to-buy-for-your-baby_n_7331186.html

1) Shoes -- babies outgrow these pretty fast. I suppose an infant doesn't need too many shoes. 2) Crib -- a friend of mine spent so much money on a crib only to have her baby sleep with her on the bed most of the time. Maybe instead of the crib, get a co-sleeper instead? 3) Toys -- maybe when they're a little older but do infants really need that many stuffed toys? Here's an interesting read about the issue: http://www.inhabitots.com/ten-things-you-dont-need-to-buy-for-your-new-baby/2/

Milk bottles! I thought I will definitely need milk bottles but I ended up not using them at all as I exclusively breastfeed my baby by direct latching. My baby has been so used to it that he refuses milk bottles. Since I'm a SAHM, I just let him direct latches all the time. My milk bottles are left unopened.
