as a first footwear, go for basic shoes that are open-toed, and definitely flat with a good grip. your child will spend a lot of time right now trying to get the perfect balance and grip and walk more. open toed shoes are good because it will allow the foot to grow easily. you can later on move to closed sporty shoes but make sure they have enough space in the front, to allow growth
