A nappy rash or 'diaper dermatitis,' as it is also called are caused by skin disorders or irritants (especially feces). (See pic) Now to treat a diaper rash, I would suggest some home remedies. - Breastmilk: it is one of the most powerful medicines for a newborn. Express some milk and apply it on the affected area. Let it dry and then wipe it with a clean towel. - French clay: There are many active minerals in the clay that soothe the skin. Each time you change your baby's diaper, spray some clay, let the baby's skin breathe and then wipe it clean. - Coconut oil: It has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and can heal a rash caused by yeast infection. Apply some on the affected area. - Corn starch: It absorbs excess moisture and keeps your baby's diaper area soft and dry. Pat some on, wipe clean and put on a new diaper. - Yogurt: Unexpected, isn't it! It is good for kids who have hyper sensitive skin. Use refrigerated yogurt on the affected area and then wipe clean. - Oat meal: It is protein-rich and has an active ingredient called saponin that removes oil and dirt from the skin. Mix 1tsp of oatmeal in bathing water and let your baby enjoy the rich bathing for 10-15 mins. - Shea butter: It also has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. So apply it on the affected area and let it be there. Hope this helps.
