cloth (sterilized gauze cut into pieces) is okay already with some drinking water. Later on you can try putting a dab of toothpaste also.

We use gauze for my 10 month old baby dipped in clean (distilled) water.

Clean cloth will do. Also, don't forget to clean baby's tongue.
