Safe for the both of you. If recommended by the Doc it means its good for you, why do you need to ask? Sorry no sorry but it seems you don't trust your Doc, if that is the case you can go for 2nd opinion. Quick advise, doctors dont recommend meds if it will risk your life unless you have big gaps.
