I assume that you are referring to Preterm Labor that occurs before week 37. The exact mechanism po that causes the onset of labor is unknown. However, various risk factors have been associated with preterm labor (PTL). These include preterm rupture of membranes, infection, multiple gestation (twins, triplets) , uterine abnormalities, preterm delivery; maternal prepregnancy weight less than 50 kg,; maternal diseases including preeclampsia, infections, intra-abdominal disease or surgery; and low socioeconomic status.
