Are you particular when it comes to balancing your children's IQ and EQ?
Hello, In our society there are just handful of parents who would be stressing on developing their child's EQ. Because, we take it for granted that being a human, the kid has it all and would eventually know about how to balance his/her EQ. And we just teach them how to be the part of the rat race and how to keep running there. And then if our kids are not able to bear the pressure of being in that rat race then no parent takes the onus, because building the kid's EQ was never in the syllabus of parenting. They were supposed to know and build it on their own, because this is how all the generations do it. Well! This is how majority of the world functions, and I think parents should be given a crash course in how to build their kid's EQ because as I said, most of the parents are not aware that this is something that needs to be build. They think that life will teach them. Yes, life will of course teach them but for that they should atleast have been told as how to channelise his feelings and emotions in a way that he/she bears it without getting bruised for life.
Read moreHey, I think it is a very good question because, in today's time when we face so many different and new situations that probably not even thought about say 40 years back are part of people's lives. And sadly, people have become so insensitive that they conveniently overlook them and are worried about how their kids fare in their tests and which college they will go do. I think, kids are born with and IQ and that can be developed, but EQ is something that parents need to make their children aware about how to manage their emotional balance in various situations. This is what we completely ignore, and which is why majority of kids grow up to be emotionally unbalanced and they totally breakdown in facing the challenges of life. I would not mind if my kid's IQ is low, but I would really be worried if her EQ is low.
Read moreIt's very important for children to have a balanced EQ and IQ. It is our responsibility as parents to mold our kids to be the individuals we want them to be. Most parents boast about their kids being academically inclined, but some of them don't give much importance on the behavior. Some would even say that their child is spoiled that's why he's acting like a brat but it's ok because he does good in school. I think this kind of thinking should be changed. It's our kids who will suffer in the future.
Read moreYes, of course. I want my children to have both good IQ and EQ. I've known people who have very high IQ but very low EQ, and I find it alarming. An example would be my youngest sister who has really high IQ but her EQ is so poor. This was because she wasn't able to experience how to handle problems since she was a child. My mom would always take care of everything for her. Now that she's grown up, she doesn't know how to accept failure. I don't want my kids to be like that.
Read moreI think EQ is as important as IQ or even more. My son is a school going boy and I have seen some parents who are so competitive and so sensitive about grades and even school activities. We should also see how a child is emotionally available to his or her surroundings, friends and teachers. But unfortunately some schools are so focused on studies and puts so much pressure on the young minds it's really sad.
Read moreIf i had to choose between either. Id go with EQ. To me, no point having IQ but no EQ. Its like talking about intellectual and character skills. Which would you choose? These days everything is about academics. No point being academically smart, but no values and morals in life. SINGAPORE lack of EQ, we have tons of IQ. Just my 2 cents.
