Exclusively breastfed babies do not need additional water – breastmilk is 88% water and supplies all the fluids that your baby needs. There are some problems associate with feeding water to exclusive breastfed baby below 6 months old e.g. too much water can lead to a serious condition called oral water intoxication and too much water can interfere with breastfeeding because it fills baby up so that he nurses less. http://kellymom.com/nutrition/starting-solids/baby-water/ You may want to show your family member on the news of the tragic happened where a mother diluted her breastmilk using water to her 10-week-old and cause water intoxication. http://ph.theasianparent.com/baby-dies-after-drinking-breastmilk-mixed-with-water/
