Miserable in 1st Trimester
Hi Mummies. I'm week 10 day 2, and still trying to cope with my symptoms of morning sickness, heartburn and indigestion. It only seems to be getting worse and I've read articles after articles and tried every tip, and even sought some basic medicines which seemed to be losing effect too. I'm feeling more and more helpless and miserable. Please share how you cheered yourself up during your first trimester and by what week did these nasty symptoms start to subside? Thanks. #pleasehelp #advicepls #1stimemom
Hello! I’m on my 16th week (2nd trimester) and am still vomiting daily, so I feel you. I spammed sour plums and ginger tea, though it didn’t really helped much than take away the bitter taste in my mouth. What did help — and is still helping me — is taking Diclectin. It’s the safest morning sickness med right now. I control the amount I take (once a day or once every 2 days if I can manage) because I hate the side effects of drowsiness and mind-fatigue, but it honestly helped me to keep some meals with my prenatals down for nutrition. You can also find the short 30mins-45mins wave when it sometimes subsides a bit (you’ll know it when the taste in your mouth is suddenly a little normal or the nausea is at 10% barely there), and grab the chance to eat something like carb-y. I also relied a lot on flavoured drinks (choosing no sugar to relieve the guilt) as water tasted really bitter. To cheer yourself up: This could be a good sign of a healthy baby! 🥳 Despite me vomiting almost all my food + puking up to 8 times a day, my hCG levels were great and during my 12w and then 16w check ups, the baby was growing larger than the usual size in a good way. ☺️🙏🏻 Takes away all my “Mom guilt” for not being able to feed it well during this bad period. Hope this helps eases you!
Read more:(( urgh I had a horrible first trimester too so am feeling you here!! Weeks 8-10 were the worst and there were days I spent on the sofa not moving. Was sick all day, so drank a lot of water with lemon slices, lime juices with sour plums and even resorted to wearing sea bands. Eating was such a chore but I could only keep down bread, no other cooked food I talked a lot with my husband during this time too to share how depressed and miserable I was. We took night time walks and I ranted all the negative things to him - somewhat helps ❤️ The morning sickness lasted until week 13, then painful heartburn kicked in around week 14 😢 heartburn for me was resolved by a mixture of acid control medications and antacids Kept myself going by remembering all these symptoms show baby is still in there developing well. Because I lost a baby once - the sign was all symptoms disappeared I wish i had something more consoling to say but.. It should be coming to an end soon for you. It's no fun to be there but like all things, it will pass. What makes you happy? Can try distracting yourself with that - I caught up on shows haha and I think overall be gentle to yourself. Don't feel bad about lying in bed all day if you need to! Hang in there ❤️
Read morejust a few months back I made a similar post from yours. week 9 was the worst for me. there were days where I just sat on the toilet floor crying because I couldn't relieve myself from the discomfort I'm feeling. I can spend the entire day just drinking one cup of milk because I don't have any appetite. May also be contributed by the hormone pills I was taking during the first trimester. I couldn't describe how bad it was but it was to the extent where I was wondering if all these were worthwhile and even questioned if I deserved to be a mother. I took anti nausea medicine from the dr, drank ginger tea, wore sea bands and it all did not work. for me, I really needed alot of assurance and attention from my husband. and the only thing that gave me alittle relieve was eating plain biscuits every night before I sleep and in the morning right when I wake up. I kinda realised that not eating (because of a lack of appetite) just worsens the nausea symptom. so I force myself to swallow the biscuits. I'm currently at 25 weeks. my nausea symptoms disappeared at 13 weeks and my appetite went back to normal at 20 weeks 🙂i know it must feel like its taking forever to go away but stay strong and you'll get through this in no time! 💪
Read moreI’m in week 9 and have been miserable since week 7. I had some spotting so the gynae prescribed progesterone which makes me feel even more nauseated. Nausea pills seem to make me extremely dizzy, so I stopped that, There are good days and bad days. A bad day could feel like a week :( Hubby reminds me that our baby’s growing if I feel this way. I guess we’ll just have to bite the bullet and try to find whatever relief we can. I tried sour plums, orange peels but found plum ginger the best. Carbohydrates like crackers and bread does seem to help me feel better. Sour-ish food and fruits like oranges, kiwis, apples also seem to help. Netflix helps to kill time. Having good friends and family visit/call and chat helps time pass faster. Fruit tea, cold-infuse teas help to mask metallic taste is really gross…. Hang in there! Hopefully it will all get better after the first trimester :) 💪💪
Read moreI feel you. I'm also in week 9, but I feel so terrible everyday that I feel like crying. Migraine, nausea, not eating, bed rest. You name it I have it. I am counting my days till first trim end and hope all gets better 😭
I got it quite bad as well, all the way till 16 weeks. There wasn’t much that could comfort me too actually, and I really hated waking up every day. But I would say whenever you get some form of craving or appetite, just eat or drink it (provided it’s safe for you of course). Even if it’s not the healthiest option, it helps to fill you up and prevent the nausea from worsening! Never let your stomach get too empty. I always feel slightly better with some food. Seek solace from your husband and rely on him. And try to distract yourself with some entertainment you like. Also, I just puked whenever I needed to and I always felt better after that too.
Read moreI can totally relate. I’m on week 10 and most days my morning sickness are bad. On a good note, it’s not as bad as my first pregnancy. My nausea, bloatedness, and indigestion is terrible. And I’m extra sensitive too smell too, yes food smell makes me nauseous too. And now I’m at the stage where the after taste of plums makes me sick too. Thankfully for WFH arrangement, I take short break/naps and watch happy shows to cheer me up. And my husband has been supportive of me, so he took on some chores, and is ok with me not taking on as active role in household chores. Yes, I’ve not been cooking for the last 2.5 mths, so thank god for Foodpanda.
Read moreHello Mummy! I’ve had my fair share of terrible morning sickness as well! But mine stretched all the way till 9 months! My first trimester was really terrible. I would vomit excessively, to the point where I was admitted due to severe dehydration. Second trimester was slightly better but the night peeing was taking a toll on me. I only stopped vomitting at 6 months. BUT from then on, the heartburn was a killer! Stretched till 9 months!!! There was no “remedy” for me. Just rest as much as you can. And talk to your husband too. You’ll feel better ♥️ Hang in there momma! You’re stronger than you think you are ♥️♥️♥️
Read moreMe too! The only food that i can keep down is fast food (mcspicy, zinger burger, fries, mashed potatoes, coke, sprite, 100plus). It only started fazing out for me only at 17-18th week? If i’m not wrong. I’m now at 22weeks4days and am still vomiting on and off but way lesser and it’s way better now. No amount of sour drinks could help me. Maybe you can try eating chicken pau or red bean pau? It helped me through out my morning sickness period. Hang in the mummy! 💪🏻

Hi, I’ve been miserable since week 4.5. Im now only at week 9 😭😭😭 but what helped me emotionally is to express in writing - I blog to complain and grumble. I also read up on how others are suffering too and won’t feel alone. Spousal encouragement and listening ear is impt also. Do things that cheer you up - it can be arts and craft, music, movies or dramas, or just talk a walk in park for fresh air helps.
