Yes, this is a very common problem. Children are usually safe at home but the daycare environment and interaction with other children (who may have been infected) plays an important role in their general health. One way to help prevent it is boost your kid's immunity by maintaining a regular diet, enforcing sanitary habits -- washing hands, covering cough and sneeze etc. -- in home and in daycare too. Also remember that kids develop immunity by getting exposed to various germs and bacteria. It's part of growing up :)

Your child is in protected environment at home just like a fish in aquarium. There are no foreign elements interfering. Most of parents complain that kids get more ill while in daycare or school. Definitely kids get more prone to sickness which is contagious in nature and carried into by touching or sharing of items like toys or utensils. Please make sure your kid gets nice clean environment in daycare. And always wash your child's hands properly this removes 75% of infections.

Yes very common to get sick especially when first starting school. The kids will pass germs around like nobody's business until they innoculate each other then it'll usually settled down. Takes maybe half a year or so before they stop getting sick so often. Try immunity boosting supplements to help preventing or reducing severity of illnesses.
