I've always wanted to buy things online and have them shipped here, but I'm worried about the astronomical fees that some people say i have to pay at the Bureau of Customs. Is this true?

I think it depends on the product that you bought. Detailed on the Bureau of Customs' website is a list of the necessary fees. You may check it here: http://customs.gov.ph/tax-computation/
