My baby's ears and naval seems very dry. Is it ok to put some drops of oil in his ears and navel?

It is actually not advisable to apply oil in the ears as there is a risk of infection. You may hurt his eardrums and there could be complications such as soreness, pain, itching and sometimes, loss of hearing. Not to worry, your baby will naturally produce ear wax which is a protective layer against germs, dirt, and water too. As for the naval, you are supposed to keep it dry until the cord falls off. Applying oil will only attract dirt and grime. This may then cause infection.

Absolutely not! Many parents believe that they would be able to clean the two areas (ear and navel) better if they applied some oil to it, but there it is not true. Here's why: - Oil causes infection and adding oil into ears could lead to complications like soreness, itching, infection and in some cases loss of hearing. - Newborn's navel should also be kept away from oil till the umbilical stump falls off. It may cause infection and attract grime and dirt.
