Is breastfeeding supposed to be painful? If so, for how long?

I heard breastfeeding is really painful. How long is it painful? What are the ways to make it less painful? How do you treat your areola if it’s irritated/bruised? Thank you so much moms!

breastfeeding is usually not painful if your baby latches right to your breast. painful breastfeeding means wrong position or inappropriate latch between your baby's mouth and the breast. once you and your baby get comfy, it won't be painful. there are numerous of nipple creams you can use to treat irritated nipples, or you can use your breastmilk as nipple oinment before breastfeeding.
