Gestational Diabetes

Hi all, I am now 33 weeks and having Gestational Diabetes which my doctor advised me to control my diet. I have alrd tried to control my diet by having no carbs most of my meal. But sometimes too hungry and when I ate half bowl of rice for dinner , my blood sugar won't lower down making me unable to sleep peacefully at night?. Feeling down by this problem thinking how it might affect my unborn child. Anyone have experience in this problem? Do you think I should ask my doctor for insulin injection?

Go for brown rice and wholemeal bread for carbo. Drink plenty of water too will flush excess glucose out from ur body to help control blood sugar as well. I had GDM during my pregnancy too. If u are still feeling not full, have more veggies and meat (protein) to fill urself. Avoid taking fruits which are sweet like mango, blue berries etc. This is how I control my blood glucose during final trimester.

Thank you. Appreciate ur advise 😊

I have GD too and it's really a struggle especially when you are craving for something. What kind of rice are you eating? Maybe try brown rice? My sugar doesnt rise much even if I eat that (but dont eat too much). I also noticed that when I'm feeling stress, my sugar rise even if I eat the right amount and type of foods. Eat also avocado so baby will still grow even if we're on diet.

Hi there. I was diagnosed wif GDM as well im a FTM. I understand how u feel. If ur check up is at KKH Usually ur dr will refer u to an endocrinologist to follow up ur GDM. I was on metformin and insulin as well. My concern was my baby but ended up delivering my baby at 38 weeks weighing 3.4kg now my baby is doing well.

No worries mummy. Elective csect is better i guess cuz atleast can prepare urself for the operation and what to expect also. Its overwhelming esp inside the OT.

Super Mum

Other than diet control, increase also physical activity will help. For me, diet alone also didn’t work, I had to walk more than 30 mins to bring down the results, especially the 2 hrs after food.

Dont think too much.. Just control how you can u dun take before 2 or 3 hrs (cnt rmb) after u eat.. Otherwise u may be facing hypo.. Check with gynae..
