Hi! It took me awhile to figure out my bm storage routine. But here’s what I do: I do pump out more than what my son takes in daily. So whatever I pump today; I will use for next day’s feed. Eg: all Monday’s pump will be stored in bottles in fridge for Tuesday usage. I will still label my bottles with the date I’ve pumped. The excess milk will be collected in milk bags and be frozen. Bm can be kept in fridge for up to 3 to 5 days. Whether if u want to keep them in the portion of your child’s feed is up to you. Ppl do that so that the fbm are able to lay flat and stand them like books on a book shelf. My freezer stash are kept for cases if my milk supply dips suddenly/ gg back to work. But do try out if your child can take the taste of fbm first. Cos some babies don’t like the taste of fbm.
Store your milk in containers, each containing the volume of milk required for 1 feed. For those you will use within 24hrs, keep in the fridge. For those that will not be used, store in freezer immediately after pumping (can use breastmilk storage bags). Each time you want to feed, just warm up one portion of milk, so the rest doesn’t go bad. I usually label the date so I know when it’ll expire
Thank you for your advice. May I know when should I start using the frozen milk portion? I have been using storage bags but not based on per feeding. Example I pump 200ml , I will storage in 210ml storage bag. Open and pour for 2 feedings. I understand that I cant reheat frozen milk so if I start freezing, I will have to freeze in a fixed quantity. Am I right?
Start freezing if you have access. Eg you tryto see how much your lo is drinking per day you can start the freeze the access milk.
Frozen milk, if you are freezing in a deep freezer you can store up to 6 months. If you are using the normal fridge freeze, advised to use it within 3 months..
