How often do you cut your baby’s nails? Do you use nail cutters intended for babies?

A friend of mine did not cut or clip her baby's nails. Instead, she filed them down using an emery board. She does this because her baby has nails that are pretty deep-set and she's afraid of cutting off the baby's skin if she used a nail scissors or nail clipper. She found that the emery-board method is safer despite it taking a longer time to complete. She would file her baby's nail once a week.
