Car, Necessity ?

Everyone around me is telling me it is necessary to have a car because having a kid means more places to go and more things to bring around. But we only go out once a week to grandparents' place and send the kid to nearby enrichment classes. Doesn't need to drive to work, and the kid pre school is just very near our place. Feeling pressured to get a car when I feel it's gonna be underused. At what age the kids require more from getting around by car?

I feel having a car is whether you have that extra budget every month to feed the car. While it is convenient, it’s not very pocket friendly. Taking public transport can also allow kids to explore their surroundings more. Alternatively if you only need to use it for short distance or once in awhile, bluesg is a good option (just need to get car seat which is way cheaper).

I think the bigger the kids, the lesser you need a car cz they cn listen and walk on their own. And its more fun travelling and exploring in public transport when kids are bigger cz alotof interactions and learning together. Car is more for convinience if got many young kids, babies, places too far, etc.

If you don’t think you need a car, you probably don’t have to get 1 actually.. in Singapore, a car is more of a luxury because it’s so expensive and it’s depreciating asset, and public transport is so convenient nowadays as well as the many car sharing facilities around as well!

no age requires more from getting around by car. if you can afford it, by all means. SG is now convenient in renting - GetGo, Shariott, etc. so if need be, then rent if you know you're not gonna use it often. that's what we always do!

We are having 2 kids and we love to travel out on wkends to explore. We dont have a car and we rely on public transport cab which is cheaper. Really not necessary to have a car as transportation in sg is really convenient.

ask whoever that pressure u to get a car, buy u one and bear all the cost. otherwise ask them to stfu and mind their own business and not ur family biz

Owning a car may not be a common necessity in Singapore. I encourage you to form your own judgment rather than solely relying on others' opinions 😉
