It is important to protect babies from the harmful effects of the sun because ababy’s skin is more delicate than that of an adult. Sunblock lotion is not recommended for infants below six months. For those above six months, you can choose sunblock specially formulated for children. Still, it is always good to first do a test on a small patch of your child’s skin to check for allergic reaction. Otherwise, you can also protect your baby by keeping him/her out of direct sunlight when you are out (umbrellas with UV protection, stroller with canopy). Dress your child in light-coloured outfits.
I will choose to shield baby from direct sunlight using umbrella and clothing. For baby older than 6 months old, you can use sunscreen that is hypoallergenic and fragrance free and come in a form that is easy to use on your child. http://pediatrics.about.com/od/weeklyquestion/a/baby_sunscreen.htm
There is baby sunblock, but I don't apply it for her as I babywear and pull the carrier hood over her head for protection. FDA advises against applying sunblock on babies below the age of 6 months old. http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm309136.htm

I don't like putting anything foreign on baby's skin. I just try to be in the shade and if I'm not I use my shadow to block her from the sun. It's good to get some vitamin D too.
thanks
