Fungal infection
Hi! This is my 2nd pregnancy and i'm experiencing fungal infection down there, it's really very itchy and i'm trying my best to not scratch myself. I don't experience this for my first so this is my first time having it the whole of my life. I know this is somewhat quite normal but i just want to check if anyone here had back-to-back recurring infection? I just completed 6 days of canesten pessary last week and the infection came back again this week and i'll be on another round of the pessary again 😭

Hello! I had yeast infection before I was pregnant for about 4 times recurrent. The first three times was back to back consecutive months. And the 4th time was after 2 months break. It was bad. I spent so much money at my gynae trying to cure it. And now (currently pregnant 23 weeks) I’m 11 months free from it. Same thing I also took the fungal infection medicine to stop the itch (but it’s just fire fighting, it will still come back) and then vaginal pessary for 12 days. Despite that, it still came back for first three months. Doc advise me to take my prebiotics and probiotics diligently and stop sugar because fungal grow on sugars. He also advise cotton underwear and don’t even wear underwear when you sleep. Also, he mention to be less stress cos stress can caused it too. After third month of infection, I was desperate. So I really stopped all sugars and take my prebiotics and probiotics everyday. It worked! But after a while, I caved into sugar again, started drinking all my teh and bubble tea. Prebiotics and probiotics I also skipped some days. It came back. :( So after 4th time of infection, I religiously stop all sugars for 6 months. Drink teh o kosong, drink water only, no cakes, nothing sugary. Still diligently taking my prebiotics and probiotics. Now I’m yeast infection free After 6 months, I slowly start to introduce back sugars. I can drink my teh again. I can eat ice cream etc without getting infection. Even now I still take my prebiotics and probiotics in my pregnancy to avoid infection. It’s not going to be easy to cure yeast infection. I know how painful and itchy it can be. It sucks but hand in there! Hope this helps!

My gynae, Dr Regina of GynaeMD Clementi, said it’s common during pregnancy and reminded me to stick to gentle hygiene habits and avoid anything scented down there. After following her advice and finishing the treatment, it finally settled down.
