while for ages we have been told to hold the book a little far while reading, i came across this article that says that this is in fact a myth! take a look.. http://mayoclinichealthsystem.org/locations/la-crosse/services-and-treatments/ophthalmology/myths-and-facts according to this, children can focus as per requirement even when the book is close, and this will not cause any stress on their eyes and not lead to myopia. this article also says that there is really no way to prevent myopia, and that reading and screen time won't really cause or worsen it. https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/001023.htm

Myopia does not have a cure, but it can be prevented or postponed to a great extent. Various myopia home remedies can help prevent it. Here are some tips that can keep your kid's eyes healthy and bright: 1. Time Outdoors: It has been seen that children who stays indoors most of the time—reading or watching television, are prone to the problem. It is important that children spend quality time outdoors. The greenery in nature has a cooling effect on the eye. 2. Sun Rise: Watching the sunrise every morning for three to five minutes is said to be beneficial to the eye. Wake up early each morning and go out on a walk or trek to see the sun rise. The walk will benefit your general health while watching the majestic sunrise will improve eye health and even treat myopia. 3. Exercise: Just as exercise is important for a healthy body, exercise for the eye is equally important. Every morning do the eyeball exercise. With a straight face, just use your eyeball to look upward. Hold for 5 second and then back to normal position. Then look downward and hold for five seconds. In the same way, use your eyeball to look right and then left without turning your face. Do it five times. Rotate your eyeballs clockwise and anticlockwise five times. Do this everyday and soon you’ll feel the difference in the way you see the world! 4. Warming the Eye: Relax your eye by rubbing your palms until warm and covering your eyes with them. This can be done any time of the day. Just when stress begins to set in, take a few minutes break and do this simple exercise that will help your eyes rejuvenate. 5. Care While Reading: Reading can be addictive but there are certain things you need to keep in mind while reading your favorite book. Avoid reading in dim or bad light. Ensure that there is enough light so that it does not strain your eye. Never read in a moving vehicle, it can be quite a strain on the eye. Reading while lying down can also be quite detrimental to the eye. 6. Good Food Habits: Wrong food habits can worsen Myopia. Consuming milk, vegetable rich in vitamin A like carrots, spinach, tomatoes, green peas, oranges, soya beans, cabbage etc., is very good for the eye and helps keep eye problems at bay.
