Which is best time of the day to conceive? any recommended position?

People have conceived from having sex in all sorts of positions. As long as the sperm meets the egg and gets fertilised, a baby is created. I've only heard that timing matters if you want a boy or a girl, but haven't seen any specific scientific evidence which proves this. My baby was conceived in the missionary position, if it helps.
