When is the right time to add salt and sugar to our babies' food? And if we can already, is there a specific quantity per dish/day?
The maximum recommended amount of salt for babies and children is: -up to 12 months – less than 1g of salt a day (less than 0.4g sodium) - 1 to 3 years – 2g of salt a day (0.8g sodium) - 4 to 6 years – 3g of salt a day (1.2g sodium) - 7 to 10 years – 5g of salt a day (2g sodium) - 11 years and over – 6g of salt a day (2.4g sodium) Too much salt will burden little one's kidney. http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/saltinbabyfood.htm You can flavor your food by adding in Natural Salt Alternatives e.g. put in tomato/onions in porridge to add the sweet taste, boil 'ikan bilis'/silver fish as the soup base and etc. Here is a list of natural salt alternatives, http://www.suesnutritionbuzz.com/2012/09/28/why-salt-is-addictive-and-10-natural-salt-alternatives/
Read moreRight time is after 1year. Babies need only a very small amount of salt: less than 1g a day until they are 12 months. Your baby's kidneys can't cope with more salt than this. Before your baby is six months old, he will get all the sodium he needs from breastmilk or infant formula milk. Sweeten food with sugar may lead to diabetes or obesity to children in future.

I read that you shouldn't give babies salt or sugar till they are well past 1 year old. Apparent their systems are not equipped to deal with salts and sugars properly just yet, especially salt -- they can be quite detrimental to the kidneys.
