Unless your child shows a keen interest for the instrument, it is not recommended to start violin lessons till he or she is at least 4. This is because violin lessons require a lot of focus and structure; a child who is too young might not be able to sit through the classes without being bored or antsy. You can consider STACCATO! -- they offer violin lessons for children from 4 years and above. Class duration for violin lessons range from 30, 45 to 60 mins. If you child is too young, you can consider enrolling him or her in the early childhood music and movement programmes available at STACCATO!. I'd say 4 or 5 when the child can steadily hold the violin or any instrument. But before that, it's better to train their grip like handling them brooms to sweep the floor. Dual purpose right? They help you in doing household chores plus training for the violin class. :)

thanks
