Is it possible to develop an allergy despite having no previous reactions to it? My toddler suddenly got a bad allergy rash but she ate nothing new and we didn't change any household products (like fabric conditioner, etc)

When my baby was only about three months old, she suddenly got a rash all over her body. We wondered what was wrong with her and since she was only drinking breastmilk, I thought it maybe it was my milk she was allergic to. And then I remembered that I had her beddings washed by a laundry service and thought maybe it was the detergent or fabric conditioner they used. So when I stopped bringing her beddings to a laundry service and started using a baby friendly detergent. The rash stopped. But since you didn't change anything at home, it would be good to start by talking to your doctor and describing the rash to him/her to figure out whether your toddler has developed an allergy. What does your daughter's rash look like? There are various causes, from mild cases of prickly heat (when your kid's overheated and the sweat glands are plugged) to something as severe as hand, foot and mouth disease. That's why it's very important to ask your doctor what the rash could be because they can best determine whether it's a temporary allergic reaction or something more permanent. It also helps to monitor exactly when the allergy occurs: At nighttime? Maybe it's seasonal? Maybe in a new environment (school, friend or relative's house)? This way you can narrow down the area of what's triggering the allergy.
