Our son has a bump on his forehead. There's not scratch, just a bruise. Any remedies to treat the bruise which doesn't hurt?

There are three things you need to do when your child gets a bruise. 1. Apply Ice Place some ice cubes in a washcloth or an ice pack and hold it against the bruise for 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat, not more than once an hour. 2. Elevate Area Elevate the site of bruise to above heart level to reduce swelling. 3. Reduce pain Only use infant or toddler formulated Tyenol and never use aspirin. As your child is not in pain, you can skip this step. http://www.webmd.com/first-aid/treating-bruises-in-children

A cold compress such as an ice pack or a bag of frozen peas should be applied to the affected area for 20 minutes every hour in order to speed healing and reduce swelling by constricting the underlying blood vessels in response to the cold. Do not apply ice directly to the skin. Wrap the ice pack in a towel.

You can apply cold compression (wrap ice cube in a cloth and gently tap on it) right away after the fall so the bruise will not swollen. Never rub the bruise as it will cause blood capillary to burst. After that, you can gently apply some zam bak on the bruise.

Gently massage or rub the area to relieve pain and encourage blood flow. Do not massage the bruised area if it causes pain.
