Breastfeeding while on medication

Hi mummies..if you're on cough & cold medications with antibiotics, would you pump and discard breastmilk? Or would you still feed it to baby?

Most antibiotics are safe but should let dr know that you’re breastfeeding so that they can prescribe the safe ones. Most antihistamines are okay. But I would be cautious about opioid-containing cough medications like codeine! Therefore it’s safer to just tell the dr about breastfeeding

Don’t need to discard breastmilk if you think it’s not safe for drinking. Just use it as milk bath or put in ice cube trays to treat baby rashes.

It depends on the medication. Some are breastfeeding friendly meds.

I continue to feed recently when i had blocked nose. :)

continue to feed
