Black pellets like poop.... 7 month old

My lo... just started on solids a few weeks back...going to be 7 months... has started to poop black small pellets...it takes a lot of effort to push and she is really cranky...anyone had similar experience...if so what foods cause this and any way to help make the stools soft and back to normal
