Is it true that we should avoid chinese red wine and ginger during the first week of delivery in order to prevent jaundice in newborn?

My PD does not believe in this when I consulted her about it. According to her, when wine is cooked the alcohol has already been vaporized. So there should be no concern. Wine if consumed as it is, should be kept to one glass when breastfeeding as can affect supply. As for ginger, she said it doesn't matter. What matters is baby is adequately hydrated, drinks well and excretes well to remove the toxins from the body. She even discouraged to go sunbathing.

There is little you can do to prevent jaundice. For me, I breastfed my baby to clear her jaundice. She had a very low level of jaundice (140), which did not require treatment and cleared within two weeks. http://www.heartknowsbest.com.sg/qna/QuestionDetail?qid=767

You are so lucky. My no.1 jaundice lasted for 2 months. No.2 high extremely high jaundice, 400 plus.

thanks
