I'm worried about my baby's skin in the summer sun here in Manila. What type of sunblock is most effective and safe for a fair skinned baby?

It is important to protect babies from the harmful effects of the sun because baby’s skin is more delicate than that of an adult. Sunblock lotion is not recommended for infants below six months. For those above six months, you can choose sunblock specially formulated for children. Still, it is always good to first do a test on a small patch of your child’s skin to check for allergic reaction. Otherwise, you can also protect your baby by keeping him/her out of direct sunlight when you are out (umbrellas with UV protection, stroller with canopy). Dress your child in light-coloured outfits. If you are keen on getting a sunscreen lotion for babies, you can consider getting Aveeno Baby Natural Protection Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50. Aveeno Baby is a well established brand for products for babies. Found this online shop that carries this product: http://www.cudsly.com/aveeno-baby-natural-protection-sunscreen-lotion-spf-50-3-oz.html

Despite having harsh winters and cooler temperature, the sun here in northern Europe can be pretty harsh in the summer, especially those who live further north and experience 24 hour sunlight. My friends recommend the Alba Botanica, Natural Very Emollient Sunscreen, Kids, SPF 45. It's always best to get SPF 30 above and this sunscreen for kids come in both 30 and 45. You can get it at iherb which ships to Philippines; it retails at about PHP 433. http://ph.iherb.com/Alba-Botanica-Natural-Very-Emollient-Sunscreen-Kids-SPF-45-4-oz-113-g/4422 However, according to the product information, it's for babies aged 6 months and above. How old is your baby? For younger babies, best to check with your doctor which ones to use. In general try to look for non-fragrance and oil-free in case of skin sensitivities.
