I am travelling next week by air and it would be the first flight for my 6-month-old. Any things that I should keep in mind so that he does not face any issues?

First and foremost, request for bassinet. This is a life saver, especially when your baby needs to sleep. Bassinets are limited onboard so it's first-come-first-serve. Also, try to take night flights if possible so that your baby would be asleep to fuss during flight. Pack extra clothes in case the baby pukes, snacks and activities to distract your baby if he starts fusses. I've included a link that might be helpful to get ideas for flight activities. http://www.whattoexpect.com/first-year/photo-gallery/traveling-with-baby.aspx To prevent ear pressure during takeover/landing, feed him or get your baby to suck his binky. http://sg.theasianparent.com/travelling-by-plane-with-your-child/
