There are two things you need to do if you want to improve the quality of your breast milk for baby. Focus on fats and protein. 1. Increase good fat and reduce saturated fats. The fat content of milk is impt for babies health. Fat is the principle source of calories in milk. It is an impt determinant of growth rates and is needed to metabolize many vitamins. Too little fat is associated with vitamin deficiencies. Fatty acids (lcps - of which the most well known is DHA) helps the brain manufacture myelin, that insulates nerve fibers. Some believe that DHA is partly responsible for IQ gap between formula and breastfed babies. (Breastfed babies brains have more DHA than formula fed babies). DHA is found in fatty fish like tuna and salmon - alternatively take a DHA supplement. (I take Belvedere brand) Cholestrol is another fat that is impt for brain development. It also helps in the production of myelin. Good cholestrol can be found in almonds, avacado, soy, chia seeds, flaxseeds, beans, legumes and whole grains. On the other hand bad fats like saturated fats, can increase babies risk of high blood pressure later in life. Saturated fats are things like ghee, butter, processed meat like peperoni and sausages. 2. Don't skimp on protein Proteins are the building blocks of muscle and bone. They also provide defense against pathogens (things that cause disease). So increase your intake of proteins. Chicken, turkey, soya, eggs and cheese are good sources of proteins Hope this helps!

Actually, there is no need to make any special changes to your diet. Of course, it will be best to maintain a healthy and balanced diet. This will likely make you feel better. Research has shown that the the quality of a mother’s diet has little influence on her milk (nature has made it such that breast milk will provide the required nutrients for the baby even in times of famine or disasters). Therefore, what a mother eats will mostly affect her rather than the quality of her milk. The more important things to note would be: 1) Consume sufficient calories. Listen to your body and eat enough. 2) Drink enough fluid. Again, listen to your body and drink up when you feel the need to. In terms of food to avoid, the most common advice is to avoid fishes that are high in mercury. Also, though not very common, your baby may show an obvious reaction to certain food in a mother's diet. if that happens, it will be good to eliminate that food from a mother's diet. For more information: http://kellymom.com/nutrition/mothers-diet/mom-diet/ Try not to fret too much over your diet so that there is one less thing to worry about. Have a balanced diet as it is good for you, and indulge in any cravings you may have once in a while. Take care! :)

Besides drinking lots of water to keep hydrated, eating a well balanced diet with extra calories and protein for example 400-500 Kcal a day more is fundamental, along with adequate fluid intake and a prenatal vitamin(NeuroGain) A mother’s milk does reflect the specific fatty acids found in her diet. Thus, a diet of healthy oils including fish, ground nuts, and cow’s milk is important. Some herbs such as Fennel and Fenugreek have been found to improve on the quality and quantity of the breast milk supply. Fennel has the advantage of not only increasing the breast milk, but easing after pains and settling the digestion of the mother. For the new baby it helps to dispel gas and treat some diseases found within intestines. Fenugreek does not only improve lactation (breast feeding period) but also promotes digestion and stimulate the appetite, while also improving the taste of breast milk. Also please avoid alcohol and too much caffeine. Remain stress-free for better milk production and have adequate rest.

^5 im taking neurogain S too :)

I've read that the breastmilk a mommy produce is almost always nutritionally ideal for your baby. Studies have shown that even severely malnourished mothers produce good breastmilk, because your body "takes" nutrients from the mommy's own body to supply the baby. Take stock and assess what you eat to see what you're lacking so you can make sure that you transfer all the beneficial nutrients and vitamins to baby via breastmilk. If you don't get enough sunlight, eat more foods with vitamin D. If you don't eat animal products, consider taking in vitamin B12. Take in more good fats like omega 3 or 6 fatty acids instead of trans fats. Maintain a healthy diet, stay active and try not to be too stressed --breastfeeding is such a great gift :)
