Here are some tips to keep a newborn awake during feedings: - burp and switch breasts often - change diaper half way through a feeding - rub, massage or tickle feet, toes, hands and/or underarms - stroke face - talk or sing to baby - stroke baby's spine or walk your fingers up baby's spine - use a lukewarm washcloth and wipe baby’s face/neck during feeding - blow gently into baby's face - talk to baby - remove baby’s clothes and have some skin-to-skin contact - sit baby upright since this is a hard position to fall asleep in - make us of Crown Reflex- Dance your fingers on the crown of baby's head (firmly but not hard). This helps to lengthen feeds by keeping baby sucking and swallowing. - make use of Palmar Reflex- massage baby's palms in a circle with your thumbs. Do this for up to a minute if needed to help baby open his mouth and get ready to nurse. My friends often used the burping and massaging methods. The palmer reflex works for most as well. i remember i had to go to the NICU all through the day to feed my babies (both were c-sec and had jaundice) and they would keep falling asleep 10 minutes into feeding. i would tickle their feet and also tickle their ears and keep talking to them a little loudly. sometimes, i would look into their eyes while feeding, before they started getting too sleepy, and keep talking and making sounds. they would fall asleep eventually between feeding, but still it would give them some more time to stay awake.

Stroke baby's ears or tickle her feet to keep her up. Babies with jaundice especially find it hard to keep awake. You don't need to be too gentle. I too struggled with keeping bub awake during feeding in the early days.

Tips from my midwife is to tickle behind the ear, cheeks, at the back and bottom feet. But you can try and error, when I try to tickle my son’s ear he will sleep even more! Maybe he likes it and makes him drift off.

ang ginawa ko noong newborn si baby. side lying or talagang bubuhatin ko siya para makadede siya. ipaamoy mo yung nipple mo ikiliti mo sa nose nya.

Tickle their feet and tickle behind their ears, it works for my baby, and she can feed a little longer

thanks

I will do the burping for baby first
