Does lotion expire? What are the consequences of using an expired lotion? There are no indications though that it is expired because the texture, consistency and scent are pretty much intact or the same.

Even with lotions that contain mainly natural ingredients contain preservatives that keep them fresher for longer periods of time, but they eventually go bad. So yes. Lotions can expire. Whether or not they can cause damage, I think it depends on your skin type, the type of lotion, and whether or not the bottle was sealed. If it's been 2 or 3 years, just toss the bottle. It;s not worth finding out if it will irritate or hurt your skin. And in nay case, the lotion will have certainly lost its potency.

Yes, it does. Using expired lotion may cause irritation or can trigger allergy to some but it all depends on skin types. According to an article i read, the shelf life of body lotions usually ranges from two to three years. The ones with organic ingredients have shorter shelf life.

Most things have expiry dates, even diapers! A good guideline is 2-3 years from the manufacturing date :)
