Maternity insurance is not a save-all. You see all the people saying "oh they wouldn't have to pay tens of thousands of cash if they bought the insurance" etc, but you pay $500, all you get is a max claim of $5000. Also, don't be misled into thinking that all complications will be covered. For example, if your labour takes too long and baby is distressed and need an emergency c section, which costs thousands, it won't be covered. You need to check properly what is covered and what is not to decide if you feel is worth it. For me, I bought maternity insurance not for the pregnancy or birth part, but for the post birth part - if baby has congenital issues and needs hospitalisation, and also for the guaranteed life insurance. If you think this is important, then do research on which is the best life insurance in case baby has any issues. I recommend life insurances with long disability coverage, good CI and also early CI coverage addon. NTUC life insurance has a huge coverage but then it doesn't cover disability, for example. Some have to buy the insurance as a bundle, for example, like AIA, where maternity is bundled with the life insurance, and some you don't have to buy until baby is born, but can buy if you want to with no underwriting needed. This may have changed so you need to check it up on your own.

Hi, I purchased Manulife Ready mummy. This was before prudential informed me that they suddenly had guaranteed hospitalisation plan! this was perfect, but unfortunately I had already purchased manulife. Fortunately my baby was born healthy and I can buy whatever insurance I wanted and no need to activate the guaranteed life insurance.

To be honest, it depends on your age and medical conditions. If it’s not low risk for the insurers, they will make the process hellish and delayed till third trimester without any decision. And usually, they just want to upsell you the basic whole of life insurance with maternity insurance as a mini top up with low coverage but expensive premiums. I think not worth it. Also, if you intend to subscribe to any cord blood banking services, you may get to enjoy similar coverage and sum assured for free without all the unnecessary underwriting hassles.

Ya if you have extra money and want to get one, just get it as soon as possible (same price if you buy early or late 🤪). I think it’s good to get those that you can transfer to your bb cos will cover any congenital illnesses. Try to get earlier, cos from the time you talk to an agent till you finally get the plan, it will take a few weeks to 1 month. 😁

Yes important. During these 40 weeks you never know what will happen, no matter how healthy you are. Some complication will even start post delivery, eg pre eclampsia, baby high jaundice etc as it will cover yours and your baby’s complication. Please get it. I got prudential, covers up to 5k, need to pay $300+ one time payment

Yes!! Very impt! I signed for maternity insurance for my baby and i. Who knows 1 week later i was hospitalised for pre-eclampsia!! You never know what happens the next min.. (touch wood) but insurance is impt esp you have a baby…..

I feel like it’s better too. My friend’s baby had some complications and needed surgery, thankfully she alr had the maternity insurance! So I also got when I reached 13 weeks :)

get one that can still cover baby after birth, i.e life insurance. and if you do so, try to buy it early before you get tested for gestational diabetes, etc.

Good to get as many of these plans also means your baby will be able to get their own insurance (without exclusions most of the time) when they are out.

Yess very important ! In the event of complication as pregnancy is really full of surprises, better to get covered

Yesss stringly advise you to get.. It ensures thaf once bb is born in the event of any health issue bb still covered with insurance..else its almost impossible to get insured thereafter innsucha event.

Yes cause mine even after pregnancy cover myself for 3 years and baby for 4 years after birth
