Hello. I got married late at the age of 38 and was pregnant 3 months later! There’s no set rule on when or how far child no.1 and no.2 should be apart. Not that some interfere or throwing negative remarks ,my wife and I are both 35 above, it took us a while to decide we want another one, honestly i did not experience to hold a newly born child ,im an overseas worker ,and so i long to do some nappy change and do the process as if i fathered a first born ,our first one is 9 years old and she longs to have someone to play with just like her friends and we do really find it exciting having a baby! Not me, but I have a close friend who conceived her #1 at 35 and #2 recently at 40. Both through C-sect. Actually, I know of a few other women who have had their #1 at age 35 or more. Since her #1 is already 17, she's more or less able to earn her own keep through part time jobs and there's not much need to worry over #1, just focus on #2. As for the comments, she can just tell whoever asks that it is very much wanted and planned. If it were me, I'd say it's none of their business.

I hope your friend will continue trying because I personally feel that whether or not to have another child up to the couple.
