Gonorrhoea oder gonorrhea, colloquially known as the clap, is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Infection may involve the genitals, mouth, or rectum. Gonorrhea is spread through sexual contact with an infected person, or from a mother to a child during birth. Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a type of bacteria that can be found in the vagina or rectum of pregnant women, and while it's usually harmless to the mother, it can pose risks to newborns. Routine testing for GBS is done late in pregnancy, usually between 35 and 37 weeks. If a pregnant woman tests positive for GBS, antibiotics are given during labor to reduce the risk of transmission to the baby.
