mamma, a high bilirubin count is an indication of jaundice. It is a yellow substance that the liver breaks down and that is removed from the body through the stool. phototherapy may sometimes have certain side effects, such as skin rash, dehydration, fever. for the treatment, your baby will be kept in the hospital wrapped in a biliblanket. i suggest you have a detailed talk with your doc about the care methods, as you will not be able to do it at home. here are 2 links that you may find useful... http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/pa/umphototherapy.htm http://www.webmd.com/parenting/baby/tc/phototherapy-for-jaundice-in-newborns-topic-overview
