sleeping through the night

My 3 week old is sleeping through the night without any feeds. Is that normal?

Hi Melissa, yes it varies from baby to baby. Some keep cluster feeding all through the night while some take in what is required actively during the day and sleep in the night. If possible you can try to dream feed in the middle of night once so that the baby is hydrated. Also this pattern is bound to change in due course because of sleep regressions and eventually sleep pattern keeps changing till about a year, sometimes longer. Just check with your PD once when you go for the 1 month old checkup (usually PD would want to see the baby at 1 month old)

By "sleep through the night", how many hours is that? A newborn needs to be fed every 2-4hrs, even at night, until at least 3 months old. So you have to feed your newborn even when they don't cry out in hunger or wake up from their sleep, so dream feed them in the proper manner and all is good.

Different for all babies mummy. My baby only start to sleep thru the night ard 4 months old. My baby started to roll. Rolling now affects her sleep. So different milestones that baby achieved may affect sleeping too.

Different babies different sleeping habits. But only 3 weeks old, do make sure baby jaundice is totally cleared..
