We have a joint account but we also have an individual account. I also opened an account for our daughter. Our joint account as much as possible should not be touched unless emergency or we have big purchases to make. He gives our family's budget and it is in my account as well as allowance for myself while he can have his own purchases using his own account.

It's fine to have a joint account as long as both of you understand and agree what the purpose of your joint account is for. If it's for family emergency, travel, etc., as much as possible, you have to follow it. But for me, it's still advisable to have your own personal accounts for your own personal stuff without compromising the family's budget.
