Answering your question about your friend, I would: 1) give specific practical advice on how to juggle caring for the baby and caring for herself, so that she doesn’t feel overwhelmed (I’ve had to learn how to multitask and prioritise and destress, so I don’t go nuts with 2 kids) 2) establish what her relationship with jer husband is like. The best solution is of course to speak with him and discuss how they can work together to care for baby. I’ve learnt that sometimes we mummies have silent expectations of our husbands, and most of the time, they don’t meet these expectations. But my husband has reminded me time and again that he cannot read my mind. So if I feel a certain way, I need to tell him and we need to thrash it out to find the best solution to the problem. If, however, he’s not open to helping even after she shares her feelings, and she can’t cope physically, then it would be good to consider options of getting external help, eg. Helper/nanny/IFC. If you have a friend who reaches out, saying she has a husband who does nothing to help her, what kind of advice would you give? (knowing this is a touchy topic, and a rather private one). Any ideas on how she can speak to him and tell him how she feels?
