You can build the confidence of your child and tell him not to be submissive is someone is bullying. As once the fear sets in, it is very hard to go. In schools, one must bring it to the notice of teachers if the kid is being harassed. http://www.helpguide.org/articles/abuse/dealing-with-bullying.htm http://kidshealth.org/en/kids/bullies.html http://www.cracked.com/blog/7-time-tested-ways-to-deal-with-bullies/

It depends on the situation. Like I have always told my kids not to raise their voice or hands on anyone first but not to back out if the other person repeatedly keeps on bullying. They have been through these situations in life. First thing would be to ignore but the bullies take this as the sign of weakness. If it gets too much then one should retaliate.

i wont say tit for tat works, but definitely standing up to the situation and stopping it right at the start works. i was a victim of bullying and i did put a stop to it right away, by facing my fears and standing up to it. i think you have to teach your child to be firm and strong, discuss everything with you, and know how to say NO.
