Should your baby sleep in your room? Room sharing not bed sharing. If yes, for how long? 6 months, one year, more?

The advantage of sleeping with the baby (be it co-sleeping or in the same room) would be that the mother could better attend to her baby’s needs promptly. It will also reduce nighttime separation anxiety and keep the baby calm (especially for younger babies). There's is no specific timeline as to when to change this sleeping arrangement. It is more dependent on what is the best option for the family or when you think your child is ready to have his/her own room. My cousin transited my nephew into his own room when he was 2.5 years old as she was expecting my niece. Some of my friends still have their children co-sleeping with them beyond the infancy stages. Quite a few only made the transition when their children are around 4 or 5.

My firstborn is already 4 years old but still co-sleeping with us together with my 10 months old baby. We love this arrangement; as sleeping is a "family" bonding time we do not have any problem with my kids not wanting to sleep at all during bed time where some of my friends (children sleep in their own room) encountered and spend hours to fight with the kids to get them sleep. There's no specific or a right timeline/guideline as to when the kids are "ready" to sleep in their own room as every kids are different. Trust your kids and your own Mommy's instinct instead of the calendar.

General recommendation is for one year. At minimum for 6 months
