To "protect yourself", you first have to distract your child - either by looking at you, giving him an object to play with or singing songs etc. Remember not to panic, they can sense terror! After that, you can make sure you have everything you need before you start your game plan - wet wipes, a clean diaper, fresh set of clothes.
