Spotting in Early Pregnancy

Hi mummies, can you share with me (in English), if you experienced spotting in early pregnancy and what medication you were given to help support the pregnancy? I suffered a miscarriage earlier this year, with Gynae A refusing to supplement my progesterone pills with any injections (I was prescribed Utrogestan 2-3 times a day by him. Kept insisting jabs are not necessary. I lost the baby 1-2 weeks later. Now, I’m pregnant again and facing the exact same problem. Spotting at week 5+. Went for emergency appointment with Gynae B who is closest to my home. Also insisted on solely putting me AGAIN on Utrogestan only once a day. When I asked about Duphaston and jabs, he looked at me, laughed and said “it just helps psychologically. not medically. If you are meant to lose the baby, you are meant to lose the baby. No amount of injections will make a difference.” WHAT????? I have read countless of forums, groups and communities of ladies sharing similar experiences but 95% share that they have been prescribed a 3-4 times a day dose of progesterone AND jabs to help support the pregnancy so how can it be it’s just for “psychological purposes”???? I really don’t understand how I can be so unlucky to encounter 2 such doctors in a row! Or are they absolutely right?

I experienced a miscarriage last year January,no spotting at the beginning. When I found out there were spotting I went back to the gynae, somehow the baby heartbeat had already stop, it showed the baby stop growing at week 7. God bless, I got pregnant again last year December, my first appointment with my gynae ( the same gynae), he felt so happy with my pregnancy again, and at the same time to avoid having the same problem, he gave me a jab on my first appointment with him, and prescribed me with duphaston. My appointment at the beginning first three months was one week once then alternate week once. Although it’s very costly but it just give me a piece of mind. Everything goes smooth. And I’m due in August 😊

Astra woman specialist at jurong east, doctor tho chin Keong.

I had implantation bleeding for 4 days in week 5. Day 1 was fresh 2 red dots of blood (which i mistook as start of my period). Day 2 pink discharge, but no bleeding. Day 3 & 4 brown discharge. Took no medication for that. I went to GP for Gynae referral and mentioned about the spotting, to which she said it is completely normal during that time.. as long as the flow isn’t like period, and not accompanied by cramps. I’m sorry you had such experience with the doctors. Let me know if you are looking for a different GP or Gynae reference.. can help you with the same.. All the best on your beautiful journey ahead 💛

I can't believe how unempathic that 2 gynaes were! I first saw blood when I was 4 weeks along.it is my first pregnancy and naturally,I freaked out. went straight to my gynae and got. a jab, Duphaston and Utrogestan (and a week bed rest which is really not as nice as it sounds). bleeding stopped on 3rd day and now in my 5 week. am scheduled to see my guess this Friday to check again. implantation bleeding or not,you deserve a gynae who would work with you in this long journey of uncertainty. I hope you find a good gynae. fingers crossed for us all.

hi, i experienced spotting at week 6 and lasted about 1-2 weeks. my gynae did blood test to check my hormone levels but the test turned out ok so they did not give me hormone supplements. Gynae also suspected an infection but test result turned out negative. It took some time for result to be out as i was seeing public hospital. In the end it went away on its own. Perhaps u can request for them to conduct blood test or swab to see if its any of the above suspected causes. Hope everything goes well for u.

I am not looking for pity. I just want clear answers and a less nonchalant attitude to my queries. I cannot accept the answer that jabs are to satisfy a patient psychologically. But he refused to say more than that. Same for both doctors I’ve seen. Just my luck.

Hello, I had the same experience too. I experienced 2 weeks+ of spotting from mid week 5 of the pregnancy. My husband and I originally planned to go for the first gynae visit at week 7. I was concerned about the spotting and made my first gynae appointment at week 6. The gynae prescribed 2 weeks worth of Duphaston. After taking the medication, the spotting became slightly darker for the first 1-3 days and stopped afterwards. Hope this helps.

I had continuous spotting for almost 4 weeks, was given duphaston all the way and the dr even increased the dosage to three times a day! Went to A&E once and the dr there said it might be a threatened miscarriage, asked if I wanted a jab but said that it only helps to increase the progesterone hormone and does not actually prevent miscarriages... so your doctor (while not the most empathetic) is not wrong too I think..

Have more bed rest. My TCM doctor did inform me that due to my 1st miscarriage more than a year ago, I might have spotting. I might be too exhausted and require lots of rest. I did exactly the same during my 1st trimester whenever I had spotting. I’m currently week 17 now. Do rest more. Jia you!!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Had spotting and bleeding around week 6, and very bad cramps. Went to a&e and dr. had me scanned and confirmed that the baby is still there. He gave me progesterone jabs and increased my duphaston. I'm also on utrogestan. My gynae is Dr. Tan Heng Hao from Alpha IVF. All the best! Hoping the baby sticks!

I'm spotting at week 5+ as well and cramping stomach. I went to NUH A&E to check up and Dr told me is a implantation bleeding so it was normal, but if you see a lot of blood, if the spotting lasts longer than two days, or you have any concerns, be sure to see your doctor right away.
